Outsized business incentives in Michigan are corrosive, yes. But we can stand to deal with that later. Transit needs to be dealt with now. This proposed transit investment, which is historic but still far short of what is necessary to make up for decades of transit under-investment, is sorely needed. Transit needs to be done today - at the proposed levels or more. These two Democrats need to smarten up and get on-board. Governor Whitmer should press hard on this right now.

I really appreciate hearing about other areas in metro Detroit other than just Detroit! I live in Monroe about 35 minutes south of Detroit and our region is experiencing a growth boom, so many projects underway Keith masserant just agreed to purchase the old st Mary’s building in Monroe on elm ave and turn it into a mixed use development residential on the top three floors and a mix of office and commercial on the bottom two floors as well as an entrepreneurial hub. You can really see Michigans growth just by driving around south east Michigan. I’m really happy to see it after the stagnation for so long! Thank you guys for your work!

I took the time to listen to this vital episode several times. Definitely on-board with Khalilah's thoughts. I think... and I have been trying to solidify my thinking on this over the past few months... that this city is on a good path to internalize its own success, which I do believe is necessary at this point. And where I think we need to REALLY push is to better connect the WHOLE city. Intermingle. Share. Collaborate. And lift up together. The city remains too divided by geography and by race - preventing the City of Detroit from leveraging its greatest asset... diversity. Too much concentration of activity and churn in Corktown and New Center. And in that vein, I think it will be interesting where the Song Foundation elects to establish their recently-announced hub in the city. But it is why I am BIG on inner-city transit as opposed to relying on regional transit, a fantasy and lost cause in my book for the near future. We just are not operating as a city like we should. Helping each other to, ultimately, help ourselves. This city was wrecked on a failure to embrace this basic concept long ago, and so I see that as a core challenge of today. Even as I try to do more community educational events/workshops and technical talks in Detroit, I lament the fact that I have so far failed to see a path in engaging the WHOLE of Detroit - a serious issue. An unsustainable issue, as it has always been. In terms of Governor Whitmer’s housing construction initiative - I think that the state needs to make a choice. Either work to re-densify the major, principal cities of Michigan - Detroit and Grand Rapids. (And the UP needs love too.) Or continue to wastefully over-extend resources in creating more sprawl which has only harmed the State of Michigan. Along with the ideas that are currently in the City of Detroit, we need to cultivate NEW ideas. To do that, there is a TON of value in locality.

Yes! Should we get rid of any lines that have more than 15 minute frequency? Why does it take me two hours to get somewhere in Detroit buses but 15 minutes in a car? WHAT!? Move the eliminated routes to increase frequency on other routes nearby. Some of these lines are literally next to each other. Then it wouldn't matter as much when the bus doesn't come.

I definitely agree that Detroit is picking up the pace. So much so that the three places you mentioned from years ago on Park have just reopened (or reopening soon) by the same group that owns District 78 (also on Park). Centaur reopened as Chandelier, Hot Taco as Pacos and Tizzas and Town Pump as a yet to be named bar. They just opened NFL weekend so I’m sure they’ll have signage soon. Excited to see that corner of downtown fill in again.

Unfortunately comments WEREN’T allowed on the billboard show ( freedom of speech in NEARLY DEAD on LIFE SUPPORT in this country) My family lived one block south of highland park b4 moving to the University district in 69 so I remember how beautiful it USED to be but I had NO idea that there was that extreme racial history at or b4 then but I was very young at that point in my life …. But the VERY REASON Detroit has fallen from the number 4 spot to 29 th spot in Population is because of this TOPIC …. White flight taking the majority population resources , assets and tax base AWAY from the city with the HELP of the STATE and FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INCLUDING denying Detroit a subway system ( when the government was going to PAY 80 percent of the bill ) and even recently when mass transit was brought up for consideration AGAIN it was the SUBURBS that denied ANY CONSIDERATION of it even when this would have only been light rail ( what ever that means ~ I know it wasn’t an expensive subway system ! And just recently the court system felt THEY NEEDED to step in and REDRAW the district lines because the SO CALLED non- partisan group drew the lines so the LARGEST POPULATED CITY had NO way to win votes to represent itself at the state capitol

LIVED in the NORTHEND from 82 renting for the first 2 years then my landlord gave me the opportunity to buy the duplex for 8 grand on a land contract …. ( LOVED LIVING THERE only a few VERY MINOR issues ) I moved to Green Acres in 2010 … didn’t sell until 2015 for ONLY 40 grand even though Zillow claimed it was worth 286 thousand after 11/2 that owner sold it for 133, grand NO upgrades next owner sold for $ 220,000 … this owner sold for 420, 000 after renovations of BOTH UNITS it last sold in June 2023 for 439,900 .. unfortunately I just sold to the 1st interested buyer that came though the door using THERE AGENT 😡 ( grew up in University District ) Mumford Graduate !

The FIRST TIME a plan for a subway system in this Detroit region was bought up ( could that have been 70s or 80s ? I was SHOT DOWN by the SUBURBS because there tunnel vision mind felt it would be MORE BENEFICIAL to THIS CITY than for there’s And at THAT POINT THE GOVERNMENT was going to PAY 80% of the bill …. They’ve revisited mass transit probably a COUPLE TIMES SINCE THEN and WE ARE STILL STUCK IN THE SAME PLACE as when this plan was ORIGINALLY being considered …. I also REMEMBER LIVONIA STOPPING the buses from going out there from Detroit because THEY DID NOT DETROIT RESIDENTS GOING OUT THERE FOR JOBS on their DIME ( or JUST DID NOT WANT THESE CITIZENS in THEIR CITY !
